A significant factor that hadn’t even dawned on me really until reading this chapter is the importance of setting. I mean, yes, obviously I knew I had to include a setting. But after reading the examples given such as Jay Gatbsy and the Jazz Age, things started to click for me. It is good to focus on shaping your characters but there are other factors that tie into that, like setting. Honestly, there is so much more I am learning reading this book to become a better writer and begin short fiction writing. Another thing is time, which is just as integral as the backdrop of scenery. Is the story taking place within a day? Years? Months? It’s something to think about. What is the best timeline that fits your story? There truly are so many factors that may seem minor but contribute to the story drastically. The setting and place are some of them.
