Naysayer Response

From a personal viewpoint, nothing good has come from social media for me. Sure, it helps stay in touch with friends who I no longer see, but other than that what’s it good for? For people to tell me how I’m supposed to look? I’m not smart enough? I’m not pretty enough? All I’m getting from being able to see what others are up to on these different platforms is that I’m not good enough. Maybe it’s just me but it feels more like a pressure cooker than a platform for a genuine connection, filled with constant comparisons and unrealistic expectations that only leave me feeling unfit. Some might argue that social media can raise community and support, but for me, rather than uplifting one another, it often seems like we’re judging each other, and that just drains my self-esteem, losing all motivation to do anything really. However, it’s important to recognize that while many people struggle with these issues, others genuinely find connection and inspiration through social media. If we shift our perspective and focus on handpick our feeds to include positive influences and supportive communities, we might discover that social media can be a tool for empowerment rather than discouragement. I guess it depends on what side of social media you are using and how you choose to use it. But honestly, how many people really manage to successfully use it positively? It feels like the negatives far outweigh any potential benefits. Yet, if more individuals took the time to engage mindfully, the balance could shift.
