Journal #2

Two elements I found interesting in the reading are the idea that journalism should be seen a public service and the future of journalism. Carey advocates that instead of journalism being seen as a business it should be seen as a public service. In other words, doing the world a favor. He believes journalism serves the public by informing and engaging with news. Looking at it from a different perspective, without the public journalism wouldn’t exist. Journalists would serve no purpose if it weren’t for the public. Journalists speak both to and for the public. Another interesting element that caught my attention while reading the short story was the future of journalism. When you think about it, news has astonishingly evolved. I mean we started off with just a paper and pen. Nowadays, the technological shifts of journalism have turned into television press, radio, and other internet websites/apps. This technological advance in the industry has greatly expanded the ability to reach its audience. There has been an unfortunate decline of traditional newspapers. Journalism continues facing challenges from the impact of technology. At the end of the day, all this technology just helps spread news more efficiently.
