Reflection

I had a lot of fun doing this profile project, mostly because I enjoy writing so much and am very passionate about it. I’ve absorbed a lot of cool information that goes into sports reporting and the difference between regular news reporting. I honestly think I may even enjoy sports reporting more. I like the consistency of information needed and the sports terms used. What we’ve learned in class has made doing this profile come easy because I know what information to look for and ask for. For example, a big thing needed is background information—whether that be a profile or a report on a sports game. A real struggle I went through during this assignment was dealing with the unfortunate real life of a journalist by doing things last minute. My interview kept running into issues where it ended up being set a day before my peer review draft was due. I had to interview, look back on what was said, and throw that information quickly together. So, incorporating the interview with all the background information I had written previously was difficult to do in such a short time. But, according to my group I did a pretty good job, considering they found little-to-no errors in my writing. Another struggle was cutting down my material. The final outcome of my profile hit exactly 1000 words—the maximum amount. I was provided a lot of great material I wanted to put into my profile but sadly couldn’t use it all without going over the word limit. So, sanding down my paragraphs to fit more useworthy material was hard and also having to say goodbye to some good quotes. I think overall, I did a good job of finding the right balance of quotes and information to let the interviewee tell the story more than myself.
