“Rejection’s Frigid Prison”
I hope by this poem’s final line,
You’ll come to understand
This important stand of mine.
You see,
Some people
Have to explore
Quite a bit more.
They walk a path
With twists and turns,
While society’s cruel words
Of expectation burns.
The shape one is given at start
May not always align with their heart.
Imagine an isolated life
of social invisibility:
Where the world puts you in
A frigid prison of rejection
For how you identity.
Can’t you see,
It is essential
We allow everyone’s
Spirit to be set free?
Perhaps they
Can teach us
A lesson that
Is within reach–
To take that leap
And be ourselves,
True, and deep.
