Bookmaking Reflection

I had first made the book with a pink sheet of paper I was given during class. When I actually sat down to begin the process—I looked at the paper, crumpled it up, and threw it out. It wasn’t the vibe I wanted to go for. It was too basic. So I ripped a sheet of sketch paper out of a sketchbook and set fire to it. It needed character. Not crafty designs. Character. Unfortunately, the material of the paper wasn’t as light as printer paper so it didn’t exactly burn the way I had envisioned but I still think it turned out great. After this, a lightbulb went off in my head for the poems. With the story revolving around flame and fire I obviously had to draw something of the sort. I wasn’t sure what image I wanted to draw yet so I held off on this. I folded the paper into the little booklet and when I saw how the cover had been burned short my vision had been born. I wanted a candle flame to reach the ends of the burned paper. It was still a little too bland for my liking so I added a couple leftover scraps I had from scrapbooking. Still, it needed something more. Something no one has done. I looked up at my sewing kit and decided to cut the pages out and sew it back together. There is no meaning to this idea, it was simply just for creativity.
