This article talks about what might happen to student aid under Trump’s administration. Trump has suggested getting rid of the Department of Education (DOE), which helps manage important programs like Pell Grants and the student loan system. If the DOE were shut down, students could be forced to rely on private loans that might have higher interest rates, which could make paying for college even harder. Trump also wants to cut funding and staff in the DOE, and even stop research grants. These plans have caused a lot of worry among students who depend on federal aid. However, it’s important to note that Trump can’t do this on his own, he needs Congress’s approval to make these big changes. Congress has usually opposed shutting down the DOE, so the future of student aid is still uncertain. Even though Trump has tried to restructure federal agencies with executive orders, dismantling the DOE would still be a big challenge.
